Hack-at-home is the first online app incubation program that effectively mentors hundreds of app makers to take them from an idea into a finished app. This is how it works: we find an organization (private or public) looking to engage the technology and creative community to solve some widespread user challenges. We work with them to identify the ecosystem of partners to engage them in the problem statement definition and mentoring process and with this new network we initiate the call for participation.
Our platform comes in to enable mentoring with experts that help participants to build their app in a 2 to 5 months structured process. Mentors provide insight and feedback on design, business, coding or the respective problem field. The process usually ends with an Appcircus event to select the best and the dozens of finished apps.
Hack-at-Home is a very effective approach for citizen engagement within Smart City co-creation strategies. It represents a leap forward beyond hackathons when tackling problem areas such as health, mobility, energy, culture, and many more.
